This past week, I watched the documentary “Biggest Little Farm”. The premise of the film is about a couple– John and Mary Chester– who loves to cook. The wife begs the husband to agree on purchasing a strip of land in Los Angeles so they can grow a farm with dozens of types of produce and animals. This might sound very light-hearted and difficult to make intriguing from a director standpoint, but the family goes through several hardships that make the film very interesting to watch. From natural disasters, to invasive animals, the family goes through dozens of ups and downs that ultimately help to create the farm they own today. The documentary does a fantastic job of connecting the audience to the animals on the farm as well as the emotions of the Chesters which strengthens the pathos of the film. There were a few times I found myself tearing up over the loss of a farm animal or one of the couple’s dear friends. So if any of you are looking for an inspiring, emotional film about a couple’s mission to create a 200-acre farm in LA despite numerous hardships, this is the one for you!! I highly suggest it!
